Homemade drinking water

Drinking water is man's most important foodstuff and a basic requirement for survival, well-being and vitality. While water is available easily and at moderate prices in advanced countries, things are not looking so good in other countries.

The topic of water treatment is becoming more and more important. How healthy is our drinking water? Every German uses an average of 128 liters of drinking water a day. It's amazing that we only use about five liters of it for cooking and drinking. Nevertheless, everyone must be able to rely on the quality of the water.

An effective method are constructed wetlands, they are plants overgrown with plants in which wastewater is cleaned through the interaction of plants in hydroponics, microorganisms, wastewater components and - in the case of soil filtration - also the filter substrate. A constructed wetland can naturally break down most of the substances in the water. This essentially happens through the interaction of filter material (mechanical), the absorption or breakdown of the water's constituents by bacteria and organic processes (biological), adsorption on soil particles (physical) and through precipitation reactions between the roots (chemical).
